PROCEDURE FOR FOR SIMULATED FLAGSTONE

DAY ONE
  1. Rocks and grass are moved away from the concrete allowing the tuscany texture to flow over the sides.
  2. The surface is checked for any grease, oil and tar which will be removed this thinner (xylene.)
  3. The surface is etched with muriatic acid which will remove dirt and grime. Also opening pours or the concrete for proper bond.
  4. All Concrete is treated with ammonia; this neutralizes any acid left behind.
  5. Vapor Solve primer is brush + rolled on surface
  6. Let dry over night
DAY TWO
After surface is cleaned + blown off, second coat of vapor solve 100 is brushed and rolled on
DAY THREE
  1. Fill cracks on top of surface at no charge but concrete may shift so we cannot guarantee cracks.
  2. A coat of acrylic additive is rolled on to seal the concrete acting as a primer (if no vaporsolve.)
  3. A thin layer of acrylic aggregate is troweled on surface to act as a primer and first coat of texture.
  4. A heavier coat of acrylic aggregate is troweled on to make texture which is between 1/8 and 1/4 in. thick.
  5. As the texture dries we cut a flagstone pattern, depending on the size of the area will determine the size of the stones.
  6. Last we clean the work area and let dry overnight.
DAY FOUR
  1. Control joints are cut with a diamond blade to open the joint to allow movement in the stress areas.
  2. All cuts made to be grout lines are sanded with a small grinder to clean up the cuts giving it a more natural look.
  3. Surface is swept and blown down cleaning the area for color.
  4. The color is sponged on each stone alternating the colors depending on how many colors are chosen. We recommend three colors.
  5. With clean waterer we go over the stones once more to clean any heavy spots and blend the color together giving a more natural look.
  6. A custom grout color is chose and then brushed on, making the look of grout lines. Also at this time we caulk along the house if needed and put the grout color on the stem wall giving a nice boarder look.
  7. After all dried and cleaned up we brush and roll a sealer to protect the surface, but not just any sealer. Desert Rose uses a polyurethane 250 with UV absorbers and hindered amine light stabilizers which will outlast acrylic sealers by years.
